Welcoming Remarks from the Principal

Dear students, faculty members, and distinguished guests from around the world,
It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 17th International Symposium at Hana Academy Seoul.

This year, we are delighted to host 116 international delegates representing 15 partner schools from Bulgaria, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Thailand, alongside 204 students from our own school community. We are also proud to welcome 160 middle school students who have joined us as observers to witness this inspiring global exchange. Your presence here reflects the spirit of international friendship and academic exchange that lies at the heart of this symposium.

The theme of this year’s symposium, “Human Agency in a Changing World,” is both timely and meaningful. As we witness rapid technological innovation, social transformation, and increasing global interconnectedness, the role of human agency has become more important than ever. In a world shaped by artificial intelligence, climate challenges, and constant change, it is ultimately people—their values, choices, and actions—that will determine the future we create together.

We believe that young people today are not merely observers of change, but active participants and future leaders who have the power and responsibility to shape a better world with wisdom, empathy, and integrity.

Over the coming days, I encourage all of you to engage openly in thoughtful discussions, challenge one another’s perspectives with respect, and learn not only through academic exchange, but also through the friendships and cultural experiences you will share together.

I hope this symposium becomes an inspiring opportunity for all participants to broaden your horizons, deepen your understanding of global issues, and create lasting memories that transcend borders and cultures.
